MEET THIS WEEK’S #HOGEYEHOPEFUL :: DAVID

By Bobby Le 0

Meet this week’s #HogeyeHopeful, David Alwood. His journey from weight loss to marathon runner is amazing.

Hometown?

Centerton, AR

Profession?

Sr. Business Analyst; Walmart Inc.

When and WHY did you start running?

July 2017.  I was 7 months into my weight loss journey and wanted to see if I could finally run again (after 20+ years of not running). I managed to go one block without passing out, lol.  I continued to build on that ever since. After I lost ~100 lbs, I run to stay healthy and to keep the weight off.

Where do you prefer to run?

Straight out the door from my house to wherever my route may take me that day and then back home.

Do you have a favorite route?

Bella Vista Lake Trail to Wishing Spring Trail to North Bentonville Trail to Crystal Bridges Trail.

What was your “I’M A RUNNER!” moment?

When I ran my first race (Susan G. Komen Ozark Race for the Cure, 10K) and finished 1st for my age group, 13th overall.

If you could go back and give yourself a piece of advice as a beginner, what would it be?

Don’t wait 20+ years to run again!

Do you have any racing superstitions or traditions?

I like to start carb-loading about a week out from the race with my biggest meal being two nights before the race, not the night before.

Do you run solo or with a group?

I mostly run solo but enjoy doing the speedwork sessions with the Rush Running group on Monday nights.

Why do you run the Hogeye?

I ran my 1st marathon in Kansas City on Oct 20, 2018. Since then, I have challenged myself to run a 2nd marathon to try to Boston Qualify for my age group. When I learned about the Hogeye being a BQ course, and it being close to home, it was an easy decision.

What makes it special? How many times have you run part of the Hogeye?

This will be my first time running the Hogeye. I hope to make it extra special by BQ’ing! And even if I don’t, just being a part of fabulous local event makes it special.
